Greetings
other list members. My name is Haydn and I reside in
Melbourne Australia at the moment. My fundamental
motivation for joining the list is a profound and long
lasting interest in Japanese Media which was
originally sparked by a my profound enjoyment from the
likes of Godzilla, Gamera and the work of Osamu Tezuka
as a child. Although I still enjoy the anime and giant
monster flicks my interest broadened to some extent. I
have become a fan of Japanese art films as well as
those media styles that are to often relegated to the
realm of kitsch pop culture.

Of course I love the work of beat Takashi who is
perhaps my favourite contemporary director, as well as
the classic work of Kurosawa. I have a strong interest
in the aesthetic of violence in Japanese film. 
Recently I have been getting my hands on as many
Samurai and Yakuza films that I can, which is some
chore seeing that I don't speak Japanese and live in
one of the more remote parts of the first world. I'm
keen to find out more about the relationship between
the set design, lighting, etc., etc., of Japanese
theatre and Japanese film; particularly the use of
light and shadow.
