Just to add a quick note to this, I believe Animage magazine/Tokuma is about
to publish their updated book listing of Japanese "anime" (whatever that
means) films, TV series and video releases. For a few years Animage
packaged this as a free booklet with their March issue, but it seems this
year they decided to sell it separately. I don't know how far back the data
goes, but I've had much better luck locating titles like "Sora Tobu
Yuureisen" in Animage than in Pia's catalogs, for example.
Are there any better sources available? I've seen a few recommendations on
this list, but I've still had no luck tracking down any publications on
pre-1970s Japanese anime/animation history.
