Love & Pop

Mr. Schilling,

Thank you very much for posting the review. I really do appreciate it. I
am looking forward to seeing the movie, along with every other recent
Japanese movie that my little Japanese video store here in Seattle, WA
doesn't carry. I just got the Undergraduate Monbusho Scholarship, so I'm
really excited to be able to go to Japan this fall and study for a year (and
catch up on all the great Japanese films I've been missing!).

I noticed a few small differences between the movie (in the review) and what
I read in the book (ie., in the book, Hiromi has beautiful hands and
everyone always tells her she could be a hand model).

Has anyone read the book and seen the movie and could comment about how
close the movie follows the book?

Also, are there any similarities between the film version of "Love & Pop,"
and "Bounce Ko Gals" (as far as style, etc. goes)? Have they been compared
since they are similar as far as subject matter goes? Did "Love & Pop" get
as much acclaim or as many awards as "Bounce Ko Gals"? IIRC, "Bounce" got
many awards that year, including Best Film, Director, New Actress, etc.

Thanks again for the review, Mr. Schilling. BTW, could I get the ISBN/
Price info on your book? I'd really love to pick up a copy, and let the
Japanese Book Buyer at the Asian Lang & Lit Library at my university know
about it.
