You may also be interested in seeing Ann Hui's Hong Kong film 'Song of the
Exile' which was brought up in a thread last week and which deals with a
Chinese woman's discovery that her mother is actually Japanese and her
re-evaluation of her childhood memories and her relationship with her in
light of that new-found knowledge.
