>if not, can DVD be recorded to VHS?
Its fairly straightforward- stick the DVD output into the VCR input and
record like that.
That said, unfortunately someone came up with a thing called Macrovision.
The Macrovision system is an electronic protection that switches on a
little "bug" on your DVD player or videorecorder everytime you try to copy a
movie on a tape.
Macrovision detects the signals coming from both input
and output devices. In theory, you can't copy your
original dvd on a tape but are only allowed to watch
it, so Macrovision has been conceived to receive only
one signal, the one coming form the input source. If
your second vcr is on and ready to duplicate,
Macrovision will receive two signals instead of one
and will therefore create interferences in order to
spoil your copy (distorted lines or b/w images, it
depends).
Still, Macrovision is more used by the bigger distribution companies, so
your copy of 'Organ' might be ok.
Regardless of the legal implications of copying filns, can I just say that I
find Macrovision particularly annoying. I have a dvd player in my PC and my
TV doesn't have a SCART input, so I have to re-route it through my VCR,
which for the above reasons means that Macrovision protected films are
pretty much unwatchable for me.
