The film was funded by the Soviet government.  The cast and crew were by
and large Russian (although in a different context a Ukranian once almost
took my head off for calling him Russian -- with the breakdown of the
Soviet, I no longer know if it's safe to call anyone Russian).  I am
wondering about the d.p. -- as I do not recall at this moment if he/she
was Japanese or Soviet.
