This was prominently reported in Daily Variety, noting that the last major
American film to shoot in Japan was Black Rain. The problems they
encountered on that shoot (with "mandarin minions" in various halls of
government) have scared off all subsequent productions. It will be
interesting to see if anyone takes them up on the offer.
