I thought I'd draw list members' attention to an article in the Japan Times 
today about the Nextframe Film Festival in Tokyo, with some interesting 
comments on the independent movie scene in Japan.  Our own Aaron Gerow even 
makes an appearance.

There's also a story on Screen Daily from Mark Schilling about Nikkatsu's 
plans for a new studio/theme/film museum/film school development in the 
Kanto region.  Namco Pres. Nakamura says he wants to build a complex that 
can take on Hollywood at its own game - sounds a bit like recent government 
statements that internet development in Japan will outstrip that of the 
U.S. in five years time.   If you're going to be a monkey, be a gorilla...
