Hong Kong VCD

Um, no, HK dvds can be played in Region 1 (US) dvd players, as my In The
Mood for Love DVD can attest. PAL is a videotape encoding. The only
encoding used on a DVD is DVD encoding, I believe (cracked by hackers last
year as I recall). VCDs used MPEG-2, computer audio files use MPEG-3 among
others, and MPEG-4 is coming...

I believe that all HK DVDs are region-encoding free. Repeat after me,
Region encoding is evil...Gotta love Chinese unconcern for copyright
