The winners of the 43rd Annual Blue Ribbon Awards were announced on the 
23rd:

Best Film: Battle Royale
Best Director: Sakamoto Junji (Kao)
Best Actor: Oda Yuji (Whiteout)
Best Actress: Yoshinaga Sayuri (Nagasaki buraburabushi)
Best Supporting Actor: Kagawa Teruyuki (Suri, Dokuritsu shonen gasshodan)
Best Supporting Actress: Miyazaki Yoshiko (Ame agaru)
Best Newcomer: Fujiwara Tatsuya (Battle Royale)

The Blue Ribbon Awards are decided by the film reporters for the 7 major 
sports papers.
