There is an interview with Izuchi Kishu, who co-wrote the Rush! script, 
in the most recent issue of Shinario (which also has a copy of the 
scenario).  He mentions that Aikawa was originally going to direct it, 
but decided it would be better off in other hands (Zeze Takahisa, who 
often works with Izuchi, ended up behind the megaphone: he directed 
Aikawa in Reiketsu no wana).  While Aikawa thought up much of the story, 
it was Izuchi who came up with the repetitions and multiple temporalities 
that make the film quite interesting.
