essential texts (OT?)

This is a bit off topic, but I've been assigned a student (for graduation
project) who wants to study early animation (of no particular nationality).
It's not an area of expertise for me, but I have Before Mickey and a couple
of movie histories that deal with it. Problem is, the student's English
ability is really too poor to use them.
Can anyone recommend good Japanese language texts for me to pass along?
