Japan Oscar Awards

Basically, this year's Japan Academy Awards was pretty much the usual 
thing: almost totally ignore independent films for the fare of the 
majors.  Ame agaru won 8 awards, with Kao being the only independent film 
to win an award (the director award for Sakamoto).  Maybe you could say 
that Sakamoto's award was a step forward, but the lack of coverage still 
indicates how lowly these awards are viewed.
