REEL ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2001 KICK-OFF!

It's that time of year again!  Put on your party gear and join us at
our 2001 launch party/sake tasting November 1st, at the Japanese
Canadian Cultural Centre.  Meet filmmakers and staff, pick up a
2001 programme booklet,  purchase tickets and passes (at a one
time only discounted rate), and join us in a toast to the finest in
independent Asian filmmaking!

The evening will feature:

- Announcement  of  the 2001 Lineup
- Sake Tasting Bar and Complimentary Hors D$BcI(Boevres
- Free Screening of The Displaced View by Reel Asian 2001

5th Annual Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival
November 15 - 25, 2001

The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival celebrates its 5th
anniversary this year.  Festival Director Caroline Sin is pleased to
announce that the festival has grown to two weeks this year, with
expanded programming, events and festivities.  Running from November
15 - 25 at various venues throughout Toronto, this is the largest
festival of its kind in Canada, promoting the diversity of Asian
cinematic culture.

The Opening Night film, Green Dragon, is by the Bui brothers (Timothy
Linh was the writer/director, Tony was the producer).  About the
first wave of Vietnamese refugees in the United States, the film
stars Patrick Swayze, Forest Whitaker,Don Duong and Hiep Thi Le.

Highlights this year include:

- Artist spotlight on Japanese Canadian filmmaker Midi Onodera, a
pioneer and trailblazer in Canadian experimental film
- Spotlight on Japanese cinema, including a retrospective of the work of
experimental filmmaker, Takashi Ito
- Spotlight on Hong Kong cinema, including Heroes in Love, an
anthology film, consisting of three films focusing on the universal
language of love (first timedirectors Wing Shya, Nicholas Tse and
Stephen Fung, GC Goo Bi)
- special screening of The Fourth Dimension, the latest feature by
Trinh T. Minh-ha
- special screening of  DJ Qbert's animated Wave Twisters, followed
by a rave(featuring DJ Serious and others)
- International Co-production seminar:  Canada, Hong Kong and
Accessing Asia, presented by Telefilm Canada, Reel Asian Film
Festival and the Hong Kong
Economic & Trade Office (Canada)
- new short films by independent Asian Canadian and American filmmakers
