Because list member Pete Tombs is too modest I'm going to plug his MONDO
MACABRO documentary series which begins tonight on Channel 4 in the UK.
Tonight's episode focuses on Argentinian exploitation followed by Emilio
Vieyra's 1967 BLOOD OF THE VIRGINS. Later episodes will have an Asian
focus including, I think, Indonesia, India, Philippines and Japan. Each
episode is followed by a feature film that relates to the preceding
documentary. As such it's probably the most exciting programme of world
cinema on British TV since the 1980s. (I really can't recall if an
Indonesian feature has ever played on British TV before, let alone a
genre film.) Pete's last series, in another very late slot, regularly
reached 30-40% audience share, despite being on minority channel Channel
4 with as many as one million viewers.
