China wants films pulled from festival

FUKUOKA — China has asked that two internationally acclaimed movies 
not be shown at a Japanese municipal film festival on the grounds that they 
are banned in China, Fukuoka city officials said Saturday.

But the city officials said they have told the Chinese authorities that the 
films — Guizi Lei Le (Devils on the Doorsteps) directed by Jiang Wen, 
and Shiqi Sui De Dan Che (Beijing Bicycle) directed by Wang Xiaoshuai 
— will be shown during the Sept 15-24 festival as scheduled. (Kyodo
