This is typical.  The PRC has always tried to apply such pressure on
international film festivals, probably beginning with the breakout of the
5th generation filmmakers. I recall at the Hawaii festival in the 1980s,
there was often meddling vis a vis the inclusion of Taiwanese films and even
what Taiwan was called in the festival catalog.
