Japanese Devils

Indeed, Devil At The Doorstep was banned in China. Most of the troubles the
director has encounter since then are in fact due to the Western press which
kept on talking only about this aspect of his movie - despite the fact that
he asked not to say too much about it. He had chosen to present his movie to
Cannes without the official approval of the Chinese Government and has been
since then forbidden to make any more movies in China...
Japan is a very touchy subject with Chinese officials. There are many
financial interest between both countries and the Chinese Government doesn't
want to upset the Japanese Government with films that could harmed their
relationship. It is also not the first time that such ban is made on a
Chinese film dealing with Japan (although I can't remember any specific
title right now - Man Behind the Sun was notably shot almost illegally in
Mainland).
Interestingly enough, it has never cause any problem to the Japanese
government to release movies like Pride, or more generally revisionist,
nationalist or anti-Chinese movies?
