WORLD CINEMA, OPEN RANK
DUKE UNIVERSITY
The PROGRAM IN LITERATURE at DUKE UNIVERSITY announces a tenure-track
open rank position in World Cinema. We are interested in candidates
holding a Phd. whose work is in the cinema traditions outside Hollywood.
This assumes that there will be knowledge in depth of at least one
regional or national cinema and geoaesthetic area (preferably Asian,
Mideastern, African, Latin American, or Eastern European), but a
comparative rather than a narrowly specialized approach is preferred. The
PROGRAM IN LITERATURE combines theory, cultural studies, film studies,
and a commitment to world literature and culture. Within the context of
this program, the ideal candidate will be able to offer graduate as well
as undergraduate courses in critical theory in addition to film theory
and culture or literature. The teaching load is two courses per semester.
Candidates must have a record of publication and significant teaching
experience. Starting date is August, 2002.

Interviews will be held at MLA as well as at the Society for Cinema
Studies conferences. Send a letter of application, a curriculum vitae,
and three letters of recommendation to the address below.
Send materials postmarked by November 1 to:
