DVD Players and regions // THANKS A LOT!

Glad this discussion came up!
Can I just ask, as a Tokyo neophyte whose laptop supports both Euro and
Japanese region 2 disks, but fails to play all the HK and US disks I brought
out here:
Firstly, if I go up to Akihabara, what's the Japanese for "region free" and
how much can I expect to pay?
Secondly, anyone know how to get round the region code restrictions for the
WinDVD player software (version 2.3)?
