Self-Introduction

Hi all,

My name's Chris Payne and I'm a graduate (MA) Japanese history student at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, with a strong focus on film and media. I'm working as a research assistant in the History Department over our summer break. My research interests include Japanese popular culture, globalisation, and the state of minorities within contemporary Japan. I have a keen interest in modern Japanese cinema, and in particular the films of Kitano Takeshi. I am keen to hear from anyone conducting research within the field of popular culture in Japan, and who may be interested in contributing to an edited volume on globalization and popular culture in Japan.
