Anime on Animation

In 1982 an series titled The Mysterious Cities of Gold (Les Mysterieuses
Cites d'Or), a 39-episode animated serial was made as a French/Japanese
co-production. Primarily for French television the series was successfully
dubbed into Swedish, English, Polish, German, Japanese, and probably more.
The animation team was all Japanese and the cartoon's style was strongly
anime, while overall production was shared Franch/Japanese, though i believe
the whole series was made in France.

I know that 20 years on this series still has a strong cult following in
parts of Europe within the tight age-group of people who may have watched it
as a child, and it is interesting that the French animators for the cartoon
which started this thread would probably be of the right age to haved
watched, and be fans of this popular series. Recently Spielberg was
interested in film rights apparently...

Influence in cetatin cases may be given to a single phenomenon if it is
strong enough. This may be one at least. The quality of animation and
story-telling in the series are certainly yet to seem dated compared to
TV-fodder today.
