beside kawase's HOTARU and SUZAKU and aoyama's EUREKA, which won the mishima
yukio literature price last year, there are koreeda's SHOSETSU WANDAFURU
RAIFU (hayakawa shobo, 1999), kurosawa kiyoshi's CURE and KAIRO (both tokuma
shoten, 1997 & 2001), aoki kenji's DOKURITSU SHONEN GASSHODAN (kadokawa
shoten, 2000) and of course the novels of iwai shunji. although in his case
the novels often precede the movies, they are clearly written with the movie
in mind. his last film ALL ABOUT LILY CHOUCHOU is an interesting case
because the novel was first serialised in the internet with readers
participating.
