>From Chud.com:
Jonathan Glazer ([director of "Sexy Beast] no relation to Paul Michael
Glazer of Starsky & Hutch fame) is attached to direct the new version of
the Japanese film CHAOS [which was directed by Nakata Hideo and starred
Nakatani Miki, Hagiwara Masato and Mitsuishi Ken} as a possible vehicle for
Benicio Del Toro and Robert Deniro (whose Tribeca Films is producing).
>From Kyodo News:
Film studio Toei's group net profit plunges nearly 90%
TOKYO — Major film studio Toei Co. said Tuesday its consolidated net
profit for the year to March 31 came to 911 million yen, down 89.9% from
the year before due to an extraordinary loss of 3.25 billion yen. Toei, one
of Japan's three major movie companies, said its group posted 6.6% growth
on the pretax balance to a profit of 6.46 billion yen on sales of 117.29
billion yen, down 0.5%.
Sales in its mainstay movie-related segment grew 2.0% to 88.56 billion yen,
while those in its tourism and real-estate segment dropped 15.5% to 14.12
billion yen.
Does anyone have any idea why they lost so much money?
>From Sanspo.com:
This morning the website carried a fluff piece which briefly mentioned the
TV drama based on Hayashi Kaizo's trilogy and directed by Aoyama Shinji
(who talks of his experiences making the show in his column on boid.net
http://boid.pobox.ne.jp/journal.htm), "Shiritsu Tantei Hama Maiku".
Nagase Masatoshi is back as Maiku, and the series is scheduled to start on
July 1st, Mondays at 10pm on Nihon Television. Nagases's wife, actress and
former idol Koizumi Kyoko also makes an appearance as a "mystery woman".
Here's a link to a shot from location shooting at Osaka's Bampaku Park,
with Nagase flanked by pneumatic tarento Kawamura Aki and Sakai Wakana.
Looks like Maiku hasn't lost his penchant for vintage automobiles.
