the library of the Maison de la Culture du Japon, next to the Tour Eiffel, 
has both Reframing and the recent "100 years" Ritchie book [yes, in 
English]. Open stacks!  late night thursdays, all day saturday. some 
books circulate if you're a member.

Indeed it was. I was hoping to research these supposed similarities a 
bit 
more, but have so far been unable to locate a copy of Richie's book 
here in 
Paris and therefore only had this English title to go on. I will try to 
track down a copy of 'Reframing Japanese Cinema'.

Based on the background info you gave, a connection between 
INAZUMA GOTO and 
RAINY DOG seems rather unlikely, which makes me wonder why 
Richie made the 
comparison in the first place. Or maybe it was just a sly attempt to get a 
few of us youngsters interested in silent cinema?
