With Miyamoto Musashi experiencing another boom in popularity (due to a
manga and a new NHK TV version), Rajio Nippon has decided to rebroadcast
Tokugawa Musei's reading of the Yoshikawa Eiji novel, originally recorded
in 1961-63, starting September 30th. A 15 minute show will be broadcast
at 10:05 pm on weekdays with an hour show on Sunday at 9pm. Given the
length of the novel, it should take about 2 years to broadcast the
reading. Those of you who want it all at once can buy the CD version
(only 77 disks!) which should be coming out soon.
Tokugawa Musei was one of the great movie benshi who, after the coming of
sound, successfully moved into acting, radio, essay writing, and
eventually television. He is known as one of the great Japanese voices of
the century.
