While swamped with work over here, I forgot to mention to the list that
the great screenwriter Mizuki Yoko died on the 8th at the age of 92.
After studying screenwriting in a group led by Kikuchi Kan, she began
writing radio dramas during the war and moved to film after the conflict
ended, first working under the scenarist Yasumi Toshio. Her first
screenplay was filmed in 1949 and after that, she penned many of the
great films of Naruse Mikio (Ukigumo, Yama no oto) and Imai Tadashi (Mata
au hi made, Kiku to Isamu, Himeyuri no to). She also wrote for television
and won many awards during her distinguished career. Several book
collections of her screenplays have appeared.
