Seven Samurai & Musashi

I was shocked to see, in the first episode of the new NHK Taiga Drama, _Musashi_ (based on Yoshikawa Eiji's _Miyamoto Musashi_) many striking similarities to Kurosawa's _Seven Samurai_.  I checked Goodwin's _A. K. and Intertextual Cinema_, and Ritchie's _Films of A. K._, but found no mention of any Kurosawa, Hashimoto, and Oguni having drawn on Yoshikawa.  Is there anything on this written in English?
