I just watched a great film about alcohol a few weeks ago:  Yopparai tengoku
(Shochiku 1962), directed by Shibuya Minoru, starring Chishu Ryu, Tsugawa
Masahiko, Baisho Chieko and others.  The story is basically about all the
bad things that can happen when drinking gets out of hand.  Unfortunately I
can't remember exactly what the characters were drinking.

You might also be interested in the 1970s Suntory whisky TV commercials
starring Kurosawa Akira.  A whole bunch of these were included as hidden
"bonus" chapters on the U.S. DVD of Adam Low's 2001 documentary, "Kurosawa".
