I don't think I need to announce that Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi won
the Academy Award for best animated film, but I should tell everyone that
the great character actor, Amamoto Hideyo, died on the 23rd of pneumonia.
He was 77.

Amamoto debuted at Toho in the late 1950s and developed a niche playing
villians and oddball gangsters. Okamoto Kihachi particularly used his
talents well in many films, especially in bizarre masterpieces like
Satsujinkyo jidai. In addition to appearing in nearly 100 films, he also
established himself on TV, playing Dr. Death on the Kamen Rider TV
series, and appearing as a regular on Takeshi's Heisei kyoiku iinkai.
