The following position for Chair of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures is being advertised.  It is open to specialists in all modern foreign languages and literatures. Chairman, Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures.

Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Chairman of
the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures at Boston
University. The position, available in September 2004, will be at the rank
of full professor with tenure. A distinguished record of scholarship and
teaching is required; administrative experience is welcome as an indication
of leadership capacity. The Department's teaching mission currently
embraces undergraduate curricula in more than a dozen European, African,
and Asian languages, in linguistics, and in comparative literary studies,
as well as doctoral programs in French and Spanish and strong faculty
participation in both the graduate Applied Linguistics Program and the
University's worldwide network of study abroad programs. With more than 50
full-time faculty members, 150 majors and 300 minors, and 8,000 annual
enrollments (highest among the 23 academic departments in the College of
Arts and Sciences) Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures epitomizes
Boston University's cosmopolitan setting and outlook, unbroken investment
in the discipline and rewards of foreign language study, and commitment to
excellence in literary and broadly humanistic scholarship.
