For those of you out there who have been breathlessly awaiting the publication of "The Yakuza Movie Book -- A Guide to Gangster Films," I can truthfully say that it finally exists, on Amazon and everywhere else.
Chuck Stephens kindly reviewed it for "Film Comment" but his pre-pub copy was evidently missing a few pages and numbers -- my apologies. Just to clarify matters:
I mention Gosha Hideo, twice as matter of fact. First in the intro (pg. 35) and again in a review of his "Gokudo no Onnatachi" (Gang Wives, 1986, pg. 193). I also wrote of a review of his "Shussho Iwai" (The Wolves, 1971), but
it fell victim to editorial gremlins and never made it into the book. Silly, but there it is.
Also, I wrote 123 reviews for the book, not 100, and I've been in Tokyo 28 years, not 15. Otherwise, no problemo.
Again, if anyone out there would like a review copy, please give me a shout at schill at gol.com
