Not entirely on topic, but I suspect there is a feeling amongst certain Hollywood producers that setting movies in Japan is currently in vogue, given the publicity surrounding Lost in Translation and The Last Samurai, and Sam Raimi's decision to shoot The Grudge in Japan.
Incidentally, whenever I hear that Americans are planning to make a movie about Geishas, I'm reminded of the awful Shirley Maclaine vehicle My Geisha. I hope Memoirs is better than that one.
