Self-Introduction and Query on Attendance Figures

Dear List,

I am a graduate student in the Department of Economics at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  I am currently working on a paper on the postwar reconstructions of Japan and Germany.  One aspect I am looking at is the role of cinema and media in the reconstruction efforts.  Specifically, I am looking for attendance and/or box office numbers for the Japanese cinema as far back as possible (ideally from 1920 on).  Can anyone point me toward historical figures from an English source?  I have found numbers here and there but no trend data.  Any direction would be much appreciated.
