Ok, did some further search and found nice document: www.pref.nara.jp/silk/icd/kaze/kaze22/kaze22_2.pdf It is about Basara festival in Nara, which seems to be the actual festival filmed by Kawase (some info on Kawase and Shara is also included). 'Basara' means 'jewel'. Similarly sounding 'Shara sojyu', stands for the four pairs of trees that surrounded Buddha when he entered nirvana, according to http://wffis.or.kr/eng/05program/pro_current_read.php?code=e_open_program&page=1&number=12&keyfield=&key=
Anyway, the hermeneutical puzzle remains -- the similarity between Basara and Shara does not seem accidental. Any suggestions?
