Don't want to turn KineJapan into a baseball/football discussion list, 
but here's my two cents:

First, I also like the ESPN's article for its efforts to avoid the 
stereotype of inscrutability, but I also wondered whether it did not go 
too much in the opposite direction, i.e., "He's just like us, with us 
(Americans) being the standard." That could have its problems too,

And as for Ono, I definitely do not think he's just around for the 
jersey sales. Feyenoord has on a number of occasions refused to let Ono 
join the Japanese National Team for international matches because they 
needed him for a valuable match. There are some players, usually 
playing for medium level European clubs, such as Takahara (Hamburg SV), 
Nakamura (Celtic), and Inamoto (the Cardiff manager credited him for 
turning around the club last year), who are definitely worth more to 
their clubs than the merchandising sales.

Anyway, let's get back to the movies.
