Those of you in the Southern California area may be interested in a
conference that will be held January 21-22 at UCLA.  "Translating
Universals:  Theory Moves Across Asia" will explore various issues of
"translation" and "universals" across a range of disciplines, with
specialists on China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and India participating.
Japan-related participants will include Rich Calichman, Stefan Tanaka, Naoki
