There's so many. Kitano's SONATINE and the films of Yukie Nakama (NABBIE'S
LOVE, PINEAPPLE TOURS, and HOTEL HIBISCUS) imediately spring to mind. Also
recent indie films such as DEPARTURE and WORLD'S END/GIRLFRIEND.

Probably the best place to start your search would be tracking down the
catalogue for Yamagata International Documentary Festival from 2003, which
had a HUGE program of Okinawa related visual material, both fiction and
documentary.
