Japanese women directors

Kawase is currently finishing up her fourth feature film entitled 
Mogari no mori. Her website says she is aiming for a release in summer 
of 2007.

As for women directors, I think Tim's initial suggestion calls for 
films from any era, not just new ones. Any candidates there?
