AW: Onnagata on film

There are actually about a dozen Yukinojo henge films. Personally I prefer the prewar version of Kinugasa (who, by the way, was an oyama/onnagata at Nikkatsu before becoming a director) to the one mentioned above. 

I don't think that many in Japan regard Miwa Akihiro as onnagata. The onnagata concept seems to be closely associated with traditional theatre. Miwa falls more into the drag category. The more obvious example for an onnagata is Bando Tamasaburo who has played male and female roles in several films and who has directed himself three feature films.
