Japanese Films in Berlin 1963-64

1) I?m not sure you really have to have the exact day dates, but if you want to try to find the precise dates, probably the best way is to search a newspaper or magazine archive. Many online archives don?t go back so far, unfortunately, because it?s too much of a task to scan all the back issues. I?d suggest that the most likely places to look would be German newspaper and magazine online archives, since they?d be more likely to give all the details you are seeking.

The Berliner Morgenpost only goes back a few years, but the Spiegel Archives go back to 1947, and since it?s a weekly magazine, you don?t have to deal with so many issues. There are search fees, however. The URL is:

2) The Asahi Nenkan is a news yearbook, which began to be issued annually in book form back in 1924, and I believe there?s a complete series, up to at least 2000 (they may have switched to an online service then), or maybe it?s in book form up to now. Most major univ. libraries in the world will have a set?though maybe not a full one.

Asahi Nenkan 朝日年鑑 (since 1924)

3) There?s a Japanese univ. newspaper database search guide at:

http://opac.yokohama-cu.ac.jp/lib/userguide/shinbun.html

but it?s more useful for how and where to search newspapers in Japanese, though you will find some useful search links there. The major Japanese papers all have excellent databases, but they?re usually by annual subscription fee, I think. If you have access to a Japanese univ. library, it may be possible to search gratis.

4) The New York Times and London Times both have online search services going way back?-but I think the main places to use them would be univ. libraries that subscribe to the newspaper search services, since I think they also tend to require annual paid service subscriptions. But they may not have all the details about film festivals not held in their own cities....
