I just received a notice about the opening of a new film archive in
Japan called the Kobe Planet Film Archive. It is a semi-private
archive, mostly based on the collection of Yasui Yoshio, and requires a
fee to use. But it boasts over 5000 films and over 10000 books. It will
regularly hold screenings of films in its collection, but while it does
seem to have private viewing facilities, it is not yet clear how many
of the films researchers can view on their own. The Archive officially
opens March 25. The home page is below:
