the J-Movie Wars series was originally produced as a short film series of about 30 minutes for the then new satellite broadcasting station WOWOW to fill in the gaps for their 2 hours slots. The first series consisted of 5 films - beside the mentioned Wild Side and All Under The Moon also Ishii Sogo's Tokyo Blood, Yamanaka Naoto's Kita koto no aru hajimete no michi and Enokido Koji's Koroshiya Ami. All five films were aired by WOWOW between December 1992 and April 1993. Since the dissemination rate of satellite-TV-receivers was still low back then, producer Sento Takenori who was new to the TV business and whose first work with film/TV the series was decided to also have a theatrical release, so all five films were released on October 30, 1993 as J-Movie Wars omnibus. In order to stress the "newness" of the films Sento deliberately chose the Cinema Rise movie theatre in Shibuya for the release, that is a cinema specialised on Western movies and not on Japanese movies.
The long version of Sai Yoichi's All Under The Moon, by the way, had its theatrical release a week later, on November 6, 1993, at the Cine Quanon.

Can anyone inform me about the original screenings of J-Movie Wars short films? From what I read, it would seem that the films, such as Nagasaki's Wild Side and Sai's original short version of All Under the Moon, were originally made for separate TV screenings. But am I right in thinking that they also together received some sort of big-screen release in 1993 as a feature-length portmanteau film? The JMDB gives exactly the same release date for at least three of them, October 30th, so I wanted to check if this meant they actually did get a big screen release or festival showing on that date.
