Re: films about Yaoya Oshichiyes - google for example :
八百屋お七 jmdb 1960
here it doesn't seem to make a difference, but quotes might indeed help at times

Thanks for the suggestions. But
neither David Lewis's
googling '(name) jmdb' i.e. '(Yaoya Oshichi) jmdb'
nor
Drainer's
name in quotes " " and jmdb outside of the quotes i.e. "Yaoya Oshichi" jmdb
works for me. Are you both saying I should input the name with kanji in Google too?

I've had the same problem searching. This is particularly hard when you don't know the correct kanji for the title...
The search only works with kanji (many sites are like that).
The google trick does work, my suggestion for better results is to redefine the search -- try the name in quotes " " and jmdb outside of the quotes. So the same thing David suggested, but have the title in quotes.

a search at jmdb with îïSâÆÇ®éµ produces seven matches, the same seven with
Yaoya Oshichi in their title that were given by Roland Domenig
as far as I know, jmdb doen't offer kana search (unless, of course, kana is
part of the name)
this being said, sometimes search don't work very well from within jmdb - at
such times, googling '(name) jmdb' usually does the trick

Thank you so much, Sybil . . . Roland . . . Bill! I appreciate your
help. I should have known there would be loads of cinematic material
on this story.
This is information I could have gotten myself, but I have never
successfully searched anything at http://www.jmdb.ne.jp/, for some
strange reason. I type a kana title, e.g. Yaoya Oshichi [in
hiragana], into the search box and nothing comes up.
"Mitsukarimasen." I wonder what I'm failing to do.
