Dear KineJapaners,

I currently have the presenters lined up for this panel, but am still in need of a discussant. If there's anybody who would like to attend the AAS but isn't already committed to a panel, I would sincerely be delighted to hear from you by August 15th.

Best regards,

Dear KineJapaners,

I'm interested in organizing a panel for next year's Association for Asian Studies convention in Chicago (Mar. 26-29, 2009) dealing with with the literary and linguistic dimensions of Japanese screenplays.
My own paper will deal with the role of wordplay in the postwar family
dramas written by Ozu Yasujirô and Noda Kôgo.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, issues of literary
adaptation, the use of dialect and slang, and problems of translation.
My aim is to create a space to discuss Japanese screenplays as literary
texts in their own right and not merely as blueprints for finished
films, as tends to happen in film studies-oriented analyses.
As such, I'd prefer papers that directly engage with
the linguistic textures of the original Japanese.

If you're interested in participating as a presenter or discussant please contact me at kyasar at bu.edu. I need to submit the panel proposal by August 15th, so the sooner the better.

Thanks!
