The mention of the Tamura Masaki book reminds me of
something I meant to clarify some time ago. I have
come across Japanese sources (and English sources
possibly based on them) that claim Tamura worked on
Toshiharu Ikeda's Evil Dead Trap (Shiryo no Wana,
1988). I haven't leant the theory much credence
myself- although the cinematography on Evil Dead Trap
is very good, it seems odd that Tamura would work on a
low-budget pinku/splatter film as well as more
mainstream fair like Family Game and Tampopo. Can
anyone clarify this?
If you'll forgive the shameless self-promotion, my
book on contemporary Japanese horror- Flowers From
Hell: The Modern Japanese Horror Film- is due for
publication in May, by Noir Publishing.
Thanks!
Jim Harper.
