Many thanks to you (including Roger Macy, who answered to me off
list), I'll try to see these movies one day... Michael, the website
you kindly pointed out about Tokyo Cinema is fascinating, it presents
quite interesting elements...
By the way, in the text I refered to in my first mail (from Kagayake
60 nendai, Sogetsu Art Center zenkiroku), Kusakabe said that when they
opened screenings at Cinema 57, nothing in Japan resembled these two
movies. If Tokyo Cinema is to be compared to Shell oil productions, it
seems that Kusakabe were not aware of this kind of films. Would it be
a case of gyaku yunyu ? Or maybe did he omitted this kind of films in
order to stress the novelty of his own project ?
