PBS to Broadcast "ABDUCTION The Megumi Yotoka Story"


On June 19th at 10PM the PBS program Independent Lens will broadcast  
ABDUCTION: the Megumi Yotoka Story. This 90 minute, award-winning film  
by Chris Sheridan and Patty Kim is the true story of a 13-year- old  
Japanese girl kidnapped by North Korean spies in 1977, and her  
parents' 30-year battle to bring her home. Told through the eyes of  
Megumi's parents,ABDUCTION follows their incredible journey full of  
bizarre twists, and a life they never imagined. Please check your  
local listings as dates and times may vary. Copies of the film may be  
purchased from www.abductionfilm.com.
In the ongoing effort to resolve the grave issue of North Korean  
abductions of Japanese citizens the Government of Japan established  
the "Headquarters for the Abduction Issue," headed by the Prime  
Minister. The headquarters? website provides much information on the  
background, government efforts, civilian campaigns and international  
recognition of this issue. They have also produced a 25 minute  
animation entitled Megumi, to bring awareness to the tragedy of  
abduction. The animation may be downloaded from the website, or  
borrowed free-of-charge from the Consulate General of Japan.
