Toho riches

Speaking of rich studio that did not have a baseball team, the news
services say that Toho has made more at the box office in the first 9
months of this year than it did all of last year--even though last
year's total was a record for the company. With Ponyo, Hana yori
dango, 20-seiki shonen, etc., they've hauled in over 60 billion yen,
far more than their rivals Shochiku (12.5 billion) and Toei (9.2). A
Yukan Fuji piece I read quotes an industry figure expressing worries
that this nearly monopolistic position may not be good for the
development of the industry.
