The Japanese version of Wikipedia is a great resource for looking up the
readings for the names of celebrities, directors, etc. While the validity of
this website as an academic resource may be doubtful to some, its merit as a
source of popular information is substantial. Also, even when the people you
are looking for lack devoted articles, you can sometimes find other figures
who share the same name, thus limiting the possibilities. The Waseda
University Library Catalog (WINE) is also a great resource for deciphering
the readings of people's names. Each catalog entry lists the names of
authors in kanji, hiragana, and romaji. Here is a link to the catalog's
